Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Thursday, September 1 at 8:30 a.m. Waves at The Washout this morning are knee-to-thigh high and clean. It’s a bit weak, but is rideable on a longboard or something with some volume. Winds are west at about 5 knots, and surf is clean. We expect variable winds this morning, going north-east at 10, then east at 10. We see some surface chop in the waves later today. We have a high tide at 11:55 a.m. Low tide is at 6:16 p.m. The Edisto Buoy is reading 2 feet at 7 seconds in a medium period east/south-east swell. There is a little something in the water and if winds stay light should be okay. Some small rideable surf today that is looking like fun on the boards with volume. The rest of the week sees winds picking up out of the east. This could give us a little wind swell through the holiday weekend, but nothing too big. Looks like we should see a tropical storm form in the next two-three days and from a system called 91L. Models show our area seeing an uptick in swell around midday on Tuesday 9/6 into Wednesday 9/7. This is a shift from seeing possible swell Monday evening. There could be some north-east winds on it by Wednesday. This is a slow moving storm so we are keeping fingers crossed that it all lines up. Note that low tide is around 10 a.m. to noon on these days. Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our area currently calls for: “A weakening cold front will move through the region today then will stall south of the area. A series of disturbances will affect the area Friday through next week.” Water Temperature is around 83*. It’s 80* today with clouds. Look for a high of around 84* and a chance of showers this afternoon. Sunrise is at 6:53 a.m., and sunset will be at 7:47 p.m. Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
