Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Tuesday, August 18 at 8:30 a.m.
We just received a new shipment of Epoxy Orion short-boards and mid-lengths. Come check them out.
New parking restrictions in place on Folly Beach. Please see the City’s Web site for more information.
Mandatory mask ordinance is in effect for Folly.
Surf at Folly this morning is knee-to-thigh high with a waist-to-stomach set. It is soft at the morning’s high tide, but looks fun for the high-volume board.
Winds are west north at 5 mph this morning making for clean surface conditions.
Look for winds to shift south-east at 8 to 12 knots this afternoon, adding some surface chop to the surf zone.
We are just coming off a high tide, low tide will be at 1:48 p.m. The next high tide will be at 8:13 p.m.
The Edisto Buoy is reading 2.3 ft. at 9 seconds in medium-period east/south-east swell.
There is a small wave out here this morning. Best for the high-volume boards. Unfortunately Josephine hits unfavorable conditions right when she enters our swell window and begins to loose steam. It’ll likely start showing some longer-period swell starting today into-the latter part of next week. Nothing too big, but might be a few fun ones with moderate southerly winds forecast for our area. Also two waves in the Central Atlantic are areas to watch for this weekend, into next week. Tropics are definitely heating up.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our marine area calls for: “A weak cold front will stall over or near the region today and tonight. This stationary front will remain over the region and gradually weaken into the weekend. High pressure is then expected to prevail early next week.”
It’s 83* with clouds and some sun this morning. Look for a high of 85* and a 55% chance of a shower or thunderstorm this afternoon.
Water temperature is 86*.
Sunrise is at 6:44 a.m. and sunset will be at 8 p.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
