Good morning, this is Chad with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Tuesday, Aug 9th at 8:30 a.m.
Waves at Folly this morning is knee-to-thigh high and might show promise for a longboard glide. It’s still small, but it’s bigger than it has been and is clean right now. However, it will start to close out at the Washout as we approach the lower tide. May want to check elsewhere that can handle low tide a little better
Winds are west/south-west at 2 knots, and surf zone is clean this morning.
Look for winds to rotate southwest at 5- 10 knots for most of the day, and surf zone stays semi-choppy today.
Low tide is at 11:46 a.m., and high tide is at 6:29 p.m.
The Edisto Buoy is reading a very small 2.3 feet at 8 seconds in a medium period south-east swell.
We should see an uptick in small trade-wind swell for the early-to-middle part of the work week as high pressure sets up off the mid-Atlantic states. South-west wind swell picks up mid-to-late week as a cold front approaches with strong south-west winds. Saturday and Sunday may see an increase in size as we are expecting some north-east/east winds. We are also still keeping an eye on the tropics. There is a spot to watch off of the African coastline, but it is way, way too far our to say if it will develop or move into our swell window. Maybe something to watch late next week.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our area currently calls for: “High pressure will prevail across the region through mid week. A cold front could approach from the north by the end of the week.”
It’s 81* with sunshine this morning. Look for a high of 87* and sun with passing clouds today.
Water Temperature is about as hot as it gets. It’s around 86*.
Sunrise is at 6:39 a.m., and sunset will be at 8:10 p.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
