Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Tuesday, August 10 at 8:30 a.m.
The Governor’s Cup of Surfing takes place at The Washout this weekend. Sign up for the contest before Wednesday, and we’ll see you out there.
Surf at the Washout this morning is knee-high.
Winds are north-west at 5 knots, and surf-zone is clean. Just not much swell out here today.
Look for winds to switch east this afternoon at 10 knots, then south-east at 10 to 15 late afternoon. Surf zone gets bumpy and remains small at the afternoon’s low tide.
We have a high tide at 9:50 a.m., and a low tide will be at 3:48 p.m. The next high tide is at 10:04 p.m.
The Edisto buoy is reading a paltry 1.6 ft at 9 seconds in a small, medium period easterly swell.
With high pressure set up over our marine area, we really don’t expect much surf for most of the work week. It’s worth keeping an eye on the tropics as Tropical Cyclone six traverses into the northern Caribbean this weekend on a track to the eastern Gulf of Mexico. Hard to say what the intensity might be, but we could see some small residual, south-easterly ground swell starting Friday late day and into the weekend. Nothing too big, but it’ll likely be fairly clean with high pressure set up over our marine area.
Your National Weather Service Marine Weather Forecast for our area calls for: “High pressure will prevail across the area into the upcoming weekend. A front should then approach the area early next week while low pressure advances across the eastern Gulf of Mexico.”
We have lots of sun this morning. It’s currently 80*. Look for a high of 86* with high humidity and typical August weather.
Water temperature is around 85*.
Sunrise is at 6:40 a.m. and sunset will be at 8:08 p.m.
