Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Tuesday, August 15 at 8:30 a.m.
Surf at Folly right now around knee hig-to-thigh h in a weak, leftover south-west wind swell.
Winds are south-west around 10 to 12 knots, and surf zone is semi-choppy and weak.
Look for south-west winds to create choppy conditions this afternoon as it increases 15 to 20 knots later today ahead of a front approaching our marine area.
We just had a high tide, and low tide will be at 1:47 p.m. The next high tide will be at 8:15 p.m.
The Edisto Buoy is reading 3.3 ft at 5 seconds in short period south-west wind wave.
Knee/thigh high surf for today, getting choppier this afternoon. Our next hope for small choppy swell comes Wednesday afternoon into Thursday, as south-west wind swell kicks up as a fontal boundary lingers over our marine area Thursday. This trend continues into Friday, before high pressure sets up to our north-east and we should see a trade wind style swell combined with a tropical wave/swell to our south. This could push up some longer period ground swell Saturday afternoon into Sunday/Monday with more favorable wind conditions. Hopefully it might get fun later in the weekend. There are a few tropical spots to watch approaching the Central Atlantic later this week. We’ll keep you updated.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast calls for: “A cold front will move into the area this afternoon, then linger across the region through Thursday. High pressure will rebuild late week through the weekend.”
Water temperature is around 85*.
It’s already 84* at 8:30 in the morning. Look for a high of 90* with a heat index of about 110*. This weather sucks.
Sunrise is at 6:43 a.m., and sunset will be at 8:04 p.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
