Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Tuesday, August 22 at 8:30 a.m.
Surf at Folly is around knee-to-thigh high with waist sets this morning. Should push a slightly bigger set as the tide comes in. There is still some surf in the water. It’s kind of closing out at the lower tide.
Winds are west at 5 knots, and surf zone is clean. Looks like a fun morning for the high-volume board as the tide comes in this morning.
Winds should be moderate today until late afternoon when winds come south at 10 knots. Surf zone should be semi-clean today.
The is now coming in, and will be high at 12:21 p.m. Low tide will be at 6:38 p.m.
The Edisto Buoy is reading 2.3 ft at 8 seconds in medium period east/south-east swell.
There looks to be a wave as the tide comes in this morning with overall clean conditions. North-easterly winds are forecast to pick up Wednesday into Thursday. This should push in some high angled north-east wind swell into Friday. We should see small groundswell arriving Saturday, as there are a lot of tropical spots to watch in the Atlantic Basin right now. But it’s really Tropical Storm Franklin, which is currently in the SE Caribbean, that is predicted to become a hurricane this weekend in our swell window. Franklin looks to push northward over the weekend, and should push up solid, long-period ground swell filling in late in the weekend into Monday and Tuesday of next week. Franklin is going to light up the whole East Coast. It’s going to be crowded, so get ready.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast calls for: “High pressure will prevail today, followed by a weak front passing down through the region on Wednesday. High pressure then rebuilds for the latter half of the week, with another front possible early next week.”
Water temperature is around 85*.
It’s already 82* and sunny this morning. Look for a high of 89* with plenty of sunshine today and very hot temperatures.
Sunrise is at 6:44 a.m., and sunset will be at 8:02 p.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
