Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Tuesday, August 24 at 8:30 a.m.
The Surfers Healing annual event is back, and it takes place Wednesday – tomorrow – in front of the Tides Hotel. Come support a very worthy cause.
We also received a 10 board shipment of Solid Surfboards. Mostly long-boards and mid-lengths. They look beautiful. Come check them out.
Surf at the Washout is thigh-to-waist high with a stomach high set. IT’s a bit soft at the higher tide, but looks really nice.
Winds are north-west, straight offshore, at 5 knots. Surf zone is very clean.
Winds are predicted to go more south-westerly today at 10 to 12 knots, and this should add some chop to a building trade wind swell.
High tide is at 9:53 a.m., and low tide will be at 3:44 p.m. The next high tide 10:22 p.m.
The Edisto buoy is reading 3.9 ft at 7 seconds in a medium period south-east swell, with a short period south-east wind swell, 3 ft. at 5 seconds.
There is some swell at the buoy and some waves today. Right now it’s clean, but look for more chop later today. Surf continues today into Wednesday as broad low pressure develops off shore, moving into our marine area overnight and into Wednesday morning. High pressure dominates for late week, but we should see short-period south-west wind waves pick up Friday into Saturday. Either way, there should be something to ride for the majority of the work week.
Your National Weather Service Marine Weather Forecast for our area calls for: “A broad area of low pressure will develop over the near shore waters off the Georgia and South Carolina coast today, the low will drift west across the region tonight into Wednesday morning. High pressure will build in mid-week and prevail into early next week.”
It’s 78* this morning and there’s clouds. Look for a chance of rain this afternoon with a high of 84*.
Water temperature is around 85*.
Sunrise is at 6:49 a.m. and sunset will be at 7:54 p.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
