Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Tuesday, August 29 at 8:30 a.m.

We will be having a Labor Day board sale, with $100 off many boards in the shop. Come check out what’s on sale.

Well, the swell is here, and so are 3000 of your best friends.

Surf at The Pier this morning is running chest to shoulder high. Maybe slightly bigger. It looks really fun.

Winds are east/north-east at 5 to 10 and the surf zone has some chatter in it. It’s pretty good, but there are some closeouts with the longer period of the swell.

Look for winds to gradually pick up 5 to 10 knots out of the south-east later today. But the swell should push through the wind, so we don’t expect it to get super choppy today.

Tide is going out. Low tide will be at 12:47 p.m., and high tide will be at 7:24 p.m.

The Edisto Buoy is reading 5 feet at 13 seconds in a long period south-east swell compliments of Hurricane Franklin.

Franklin swell will peak today, with waves shoulder high to maybe overhead on the incoming tides this afternoon. South-east winds add some slight chop later today. Overall our beaches don’t generally handle this type of period so well expect lots of closeouts with a few gems mixed in. Winds will be light SE during the event and shouldn’t hinder it to badly. Wednesday, we see the wind and rain begin to pick up, as well as some choppy, on-shore waves from what is now Hurricane Idalia.  It looks to move across the big bend in Florida and then right into the Charleston area overnight Thursday. After the passage of Idalia, winds come strong off-shore west, then north-west late day Thursday. Hard to say if there will be much of a clean-up as Idalia moves quickly off-shore and to our north-east. Stay tuned.

Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast calls for: “A cold front will stall northwest of the region today. Tropical Cyclone Idalia is then expected to bring impacts to the area mid-week. High pressure will return late week and continue into the weekend. Refer to the latest advisory on Idalia issued by the National Hurricane Center.”

 Water temperature is around 85*.

It’s already 83* and with clouds moving in from the west this morning. Look for a high of 87* with sun mixed with clouds. We are under a tropical storm watch, and expect flooding to begin overnight into tomorrow.

Sunrise is at 6:44 a.m., and sunset will be at 8:02 p.m.

Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
