Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Tuesday, August 8 at 8:30 a.m.
We received another shipment of Catch Surf Logs in 7’, 8’ and 9’ lengths. They have been selling really fast, so come get some of the last Logs of the summer.
The Governor’s Cup of Surfing takes place this weekend at The Washout. Come see who wins the state championship this weekend.
Coming to you from the pier this morning since the tide is so low. We figured it would be drained at The Washout.
There is a knee-high wave this morning. No takers at the pier. It is pretty small, but might pick up just a bit on the incoming tide.
Winds are from the west at about 10 kts. We expect very hot weather with westerly winds at 10 knots until mid-afternoon, when winds will become south-west at 10 to 15 knots and surf-zone will likely get a bit choppier.
We just came off a low tide at 7:51 a.m. Look for a high to follow at 2:27 p.m. and another low to end our day at 8:42 p.m.
The Edisto Buoy is reading 1.3 feet at 8 seconds in medium period ESE swell, with a short period South wind swell 3 feet at 5 seconds.
Might be an OK morning for the longboard on the incoming tide today. This afternoon, we see choppy, south-west wind swell pick up ahead of a frontal boundary. This continues into Wednesday, when we could see a small trade-wind style ground swell kick up a small wave. Friday into the weekend, we see typical, choppy south-west, summer-style wind swell return.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast calls for: “A cold front will approach today and meander over the area through late week. An area of low pressure could develop over the Coastal Plain, bringing unsettled weather into the weekend.”
Water temperature is around 85*.
It’s already 82* with sun and a few high clouds right now. Expect those clouds to burn off and we’ll see blazing hot temperatures today with a high of around 90* and heat indices in the 100s.
Sunrise is at 6:38 a.m., and sunset will be at 8:11 p.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
