Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Tuesday, December 29 at 8:30 a.m.

Surf at Folly this morning is knee-to-thigh high and clean. There is a rare waist set, but it’s a long wait. Best for a longboard glide. It’s rideable, but has dropped off a bit from yesterday.

Winds are north/north-west at 5 to 8 knots. Surf is very clean.

Look for winds to go north-east at 10 to 15 knots this afternoon, then get gusty late day. Surf will get choppier and lose form this afternoon as the tide comes in.

Tide is going out, and low tide will be at 1:23 p.m. High tide will be at 7:26 pm.

Virtual buoy data is reading 2.9 at 9 seconds from the east/south-east.

Surf looks to come back to life again mid-week as high pressure shifts well offshore and begins to produce high-angled north-east wind swell for Wednesday. This trade-swell will then be enhanced as a strong cold front approaches our marine area Thursday and further builds our surf into the head high area from the south. Another costal low continues big choppy surf for Saturday into Sunday, when surf should clean up and begin to fall off. Winds will be a factor during these upcoming swell events. Either way we can plan on surfing a lot in this coming week.

Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast calls for: “High pressure will prevail into mid week. Another cold front will likely impact the area late week. A coastal low pressure system could impact the region late Saturday into early Sunday. High pressure will then prevail Monday.”

It is 49* at the beach this morning with bright sunshine. We expect a high of 57* with sun all day.

Water temperature has dropped to 53*.

Sunrise is at 7:21 a.m. and sunset will be at 5:21 p.m.
