Wave Forecast: Knee. Occ. thigh.

Dangers: STR Vote.

Good morning this is Bates with you Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Tuesday, February 7 at 8:30 a.m.

Well, the big vote over the short-term rental cap is today, so throw up some sandbags, get the gun turret set up on your $20,000 EZ-GO and get ready for the fireworks show and campaign-sign bon-fire burning later this evening. This message is sponsored by VRBO and Airbnb. Hah. Just kidding, y’all.

Surf at Folly is a little smaller this morning, but still almost rideable.

It’s running knee-high with a rare thigh high set. Might be OK for the longboard with clean conditions, but its soft at the morning’s high tide.

Winds are slack this morning, trending light north.

Winds go south-east at 5 to 10 knots this afternoon, and there should be some slight surface chop on the waves at the low tide later today.

We have a high tide at 8:45 a.m., a low tide at 2:52 p.m., and another high tide at 9:03 tonight.

The Edisto Buoy is reading 2.3 feet at 9 seconds in a medium period south-east swell.

Surf has dropped into the knee/thigh high range for your Tuesday, and we expect lazy, small swell to continue for your Wednesday. A series of cold fronts will cross the area Thursday and Friday, and this will kick up a bigger wind swell from the south, but winds will be heavy on it Starting Thursday and through Friday evening, when winds are predicted to come west. Strong north-west winds will show on Saturday, and hopefully there will be a clean-up session Saturday morning before waves get pushed down Saturday afternoon with cooler temperatures.

The NOAA Marine Weather forecast for our area calls for: “High pressure will prevail through Wednesday night, then move offshore. A series of cold fronts will affect the area late Thursday through Saturday morning, followed by dry high pressure.”

It’s 46* and sunny this morning. Look for a high of 62* with sun and some clouds this afternoon.

Water temperature is 57*.

Sunrise is at 7:12 a.m., and sunset will be at 5:55 p.m.

Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
