Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Tuesday, January 4 at 8:30 a.m.

We just received a shipment of Gary Wilson surfboards as well as a batch of Solid Surfboard mid-lengths and logs. Come check them out.

Surf at The Washout this morning is thigh-high and drifting down the beach from north-to-south. It’s the complete opposite swell direction from yesterday. It’s cold this morning, so only one brave soul going after it.

Winds are now north/north-east at 15 knots, and surf is side-shore and semi-choppy in a small, high-angled northeast wind swell. It is breaking into the rocks at the morning’s high tide.

Look for winds to switch more to the north-east at 10 to 15 knots today. We see a semi-choppy surf zone as small north-east wind swell continues this afternoon.

We have a high tide as of report time. Low tide will be at 3:11 p.m. The next high tide will be at 9:12 p.m.

The Edisto Buoy is reading 2.6 feet at 13 seconds in a long period easterly ground swell, with a short period north-east wind swell 6 ft at 7 seconds.

Look for a semi-choppy, short-period north-east wind swell average thigh high today. Surf looks to fall off starting Wednesday and will stay small through Saturday. Another cold front approaches late in the weekend, and we could see some small south-west wind swell begin to develop ahead of the cold front.

Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our area currently calls for: “Cool high pressure will prevail across the area through the middle part of the week. A cold front could impact the area late this week, followed by high pressure. Then, another cold front is expected to move through the area late weekend.”

It’s currently 37* and mostly sunny this morning. The wind chill feels about freezing. Look for a high of 53* today and sun mixed with clouds this afternoon.

Water Temperature is hovering around 60*.  That’s going to drop out with the north flow.

Sunrise is at 7:22 a.m., and sunset will be at 5:27 p.m.

Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
