Good morning this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop report and forecast for Tuesday, January 23 at 8:30 a.m.
Just wanted to give a shout-out and a prayer to The Godley family and Norman “Moose” Godley, Jr. A brilliant surfer and a good friend. We will deeply miss seeing you around the shop.
Waves at The Washout are knee-to-thigh high. It’s rideable on the longboard.
Winds are north-east at 10 knots, and surf-zone is semi-choppy. Look for increasing easterly wind today at 10 to 15 knots, and surf should begin to pick up just a bit on the incoming tide this afternoon with choppy conditions in the forecast.
Tide is now going out. Low tide will be at 12:20 p.m. High tide will be at 6:19 p.m.,
The Edisto buoy is currently reading 4.6ft at 9 seconds in a short-period south-east wind swell.
Look for surf to build some today on the incoming tide with choppy conditions as winds blow east at a moderately strong clip this afternoon. For mid-week, look for high pressure to move off of the mid-Atlantic to the east. We should see a really nice Bermuda high pressure wind swell move into South Carolina’s Beaches. Winds will be moderate from the south, and air temperatures are forecast to get warm. This swell remains rideable until another cold front moves through sometime on Sunday, and winds come strong off-shore once again and blow down the surf for early in the next work week.
NOAA Forecast: “ High pressure will remain off the coast with a surface trough nearby today. A warm front will lift north through the area Wednesday. A cold front will pass through late Friday, followed by another front on Sunday.”
Current water temp: 51*.
It’s 55* and cloudy with light showers this morning. Look for a high of 63* and clouds with light showers on-and-off today.
Sunrise is 7:21 a.m., Sunset 5:38 p.m.
That’s all from us at Ocean Surf Shop. We’ll check back tomorrow.
