Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Tuesday, June 15 at 8:30 a.m.
Surf at Folly is knee-high this morning. Maybe slightly bigger. It’s pretty small.
Winds are west/south-west – side-shore – at 10 knots, and surf is choppy and weak.
Look for south-west winds at 15 to 20 this afternoon. Surf will get choppy and drifty in a building, small south-west wind swell.
We have a high tide at noon today, and a low tide will be at 5:55 p.m.
We see choppy south-west wind swell pick up this afternoon as south-west winds pick up ahead of a cold front later today. This wind-swell cleans up for Wednesday morning and drops off Wednesday afternoon. Tropical storm Bill formed overnight and is racing away to our north-east. There is also the possibility of a tropical system in the Gulf of Mexico that could affect our surf Sunday into Monday in a southerly wind-chop swell. Other than that, surf looks fairly small late week, so get some mid-week if you can.
Your National Weather Service Marine Weather forecast calls for: “A cold front sweep across the region late this afternoon and evening. High pressure will build across the Southeast U.S on Wednesday and will remain through Friday. Unsettled weather is expected this weekend into early next week.”
It’s 81* and sunny at the beach. Look for a high of 87* and a 50% chance of a thunderstorm as this frontal system passes by our marine area.
Water temperature is around 80*.
Sunrise is at 6:11 a.m. and sunset will be at 8:29 p.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
