Good morning this is Bates your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Tuesday, March 14 at 8:30 a.m.
Surf at Folly is blown out this morning. It’s running knee-high and weak. We have strong north winds at 20 to 25 knots. There is a strong current down the beach from north-to-south.
Look for these winds to continue after a cold front passage last night. Winds should go north-west later this afternoon, and surf will clean up some, later with small conditions expected.
We just came off a low at 7:39 a.m. look for the tide to fill in at 1:20 p.m. with another low following at 7:33 p.m.
The Edisto Buoy is reading 2.6 ft at 13 seconds in a long period south-east wind swell pushing against a building short-period north wind swell 4.3 feet at 5 seconds.
After a cold front passage, winds are now strong from the north. With a north-easter predicted for New England, might be a good time to head south to Florida for mid/late-week. High pressure will build in to our area through mid-week, and our next chance for more significant swell will be late Thursday into Saturday when another cold front moves through and builds a bigger south-west wind swell Friday, eventually cleaning up at some point on Saturday. We’ll keep you updated.
The NOAA Marine Weather forecast for our area calls for: “Cool high pressure will build into the region through midweek, then gradually move offshore into Friday. A cold front is forecasted to move through the region Friday night or Saturday, followed by High pressure into early next week.”
Well, it feels like winter finally decided to show up. At least a Lowcountry style winter. It’s 43* and sunny with a small craft advisory in effect for our marine area. Look for sun and wind today with a high of 55*.
Water temperature is up to 65* but will likely drop back to 62* for late week. It’ll be on the way up, though.
Sunrise is at 7:31 a.m., and sunset will be at 7:26 p.m.
