Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Tuesday, May 17 at 8:30 a.m.

Waves at The Washout this morning are thigh-to-waist high with rare stomach high sets.

Winds are north/north-east at 10 to 12 knots, and surf-zone is crossed-up and a bit weak in a leftover south wind swell.  Looks fun for a high volume board, however.

Look for winds to come east at 10 to 15 with gusts to 20 today. We will see choppy, fading surf this afternoon on the lower tide.

We have a high tide at 9:20 a.m., and a low tide will be at 3:23 p.m. The next high tide is at 9:58 p.m.

The Edisto Buoy is reading 3.9 feet at 9 seconds in a south-easterly swell. Although it has dropped a bit,  there is still plenty of swell at the buoy with a good direction.

We see ridable surf this morning fade some late this afternoon as winds come east – side shore –  at 15 to 20 knots creating some chop.  We see small choppy, south-west wind swell for mid-week, before south-west winds and choppy, short period south-west wind swell increases late day Thursday into Friday. After a cold front passage Friday night, surf looks small for the weekend.

Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our area currently calls for: “High pressure will gradually build into the region through the end of the week. A cold front will approach the region this weekend, bringing unsettled weather to the area.”

It’s 73* with sun this morning. Look for partly cloudy skies today and a high of 78*. There is a slight chance for a thunderstorm this afternoon.

Water Temperature is still around 75*.

Sunrise is at 6:19 a.m., and sunset will be at 8:13 p.m.
