Good morning this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Tuesday, May 2 at 8:30 a.m.
Want to give a shout out to Luke the Kook for using his maritime knowledge to get the surf report done every week. He started Castaway Charters leaving out of Crosby’s Seafood’s dock on Folly Road right near the beach. Call him get on the water. Castaway Charters can be reached at 843-480-1571, and check out Castaways Instagram @castaway.with.us
Surf at Folly is knee-to-thigh high. Maybe a longboard glide if you’re into it.
Winds are westerly – side-shore – at 15 knots, and are expected to increase westerly this afternoon at to 20 to 30 knots. It’ll be breezy out there today, and it will beat the waves down. There is a Small Craft Advisory in effect, unless you’re a kiteboarder.
Low tide is approaching at 12:09 p.m. High tide will fill in at 6:40 p.m.
The Edisto Buoy is reading 4.9 ft at 6 seconds in a short period south-west wind swell.
Look for surf to be blown out this afternoon as westerly winds get strong and gusty. This trend will moderate some for Wednesday, but we expect small surf all week as high pressure sets up Thursday and Friday. Next hope for some surf comes as a cold front moves into the area for the weekend and could stall near our waters, possibly spinning gup a low offshore Sunday into Monday of next week. But that’s a hopeful forecast.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast calls for: “A broad trough of low pressure will prevail across the area into mid week. High pressure will return Thursday and Friday. A cold front could impact the region this weekend, followed by high pressure early next week.”
Its 61 this morning with sunshine, Temps should pick up to mid 70s with sun prevailing. Beautiful weather for fishing or just walking on the beach.
Water temperature is 72*.
Sunrise is at 6:34 a.m., and sunset will be at 8:00 p.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
