Good morning this is Brad with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Tuesday, November 8 at 8:30 a.m.
Waves at The Washout this morning are waist to stomach high with a slightly bigger set. It looks like an occasional line will form, but a majority of the swell is drifty and blown out. If you’re in the right spot, you’ll get a couple turns on the face.
Winds are north at 15-20 knots and surf is slightly side-shore with a hard onshore spray. There’s a moderate drift from North to South, so make sure to walk down a couple blocks before you paddle out. Overall impression is textured, chopper waters and an inconsistent peak.
Look for north/north-east winds at 20+ knots today, and we see a choppy surf zone throughout the day.
Tide is going out from an earlier 7:30 a.m. high. Low tide is at 1:36 p.m., and the next high tide will be at 7:49 p.m.
The Edisto Buoy is reading 4.9 feet at 9.1 seconds in a medium period east/south-east swell. Plenty of swell at the buoy means waves all day for Folly Beach.
Subtropical Storm Nicole is now in the picture and begins to develop off-shore to the south of our marine area for much of the upcoming work week. She looks to move on-shore in Florida before recurving into our vicinity late week. Kind of the same track as Ian. With high pressure situated to our north and Nicole developing to our south, we should see winds continue to significantly increase from the east/north-east. This flow will increase our wave size this week, with windy conditions. Look for choppy, drifty surf on this upcoming swell as winds will trend east to north-east at around 15 knots, going stronger late week. Should be plenty of size on the swell through Friday. If the winds trend more north, perhaps the swell will be side-shore and cleaner. Something to keep an eye on.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our area currently calls for: Strong high pressure will prevail through the first half of the week. Subtropical Storm Nicole could impact the area as a tropical cyclone during the latter half of the week. A cold front is then expected to sweep the region this weekend. Refer to the latest advisory on Nicole issued by the National Hurricane Center.”
Water temperature is running around 70*
It’s warm, sunny, and gusty at the beach. It’s 70*. Look for a high of 73* and sun all day. Wind will likely continue throughout the afternoon.
Sunrise is at 6:44 a.m., and sunset will be at 5:23 p.m.
