Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Tuesday, October 1 at 8:30 a.m.
Surf at The Washout this morning is thigh-to waist high with a stomach set. Occasionally, it’s a bit bigger, but the tide is VERY high and surf is breaking too close to the beach. It’s a long wait between sets.
Winds are from the north/north-east at 5 to 10, and surf is side-shore and bumpy, but not too bad.
Look for light north-east winds increasing 10 to 15 knots this afternoon, with choppier surf expected throughout the day.
We have a high tide at 10:38 a.m., and a low tide will be at 4:46 p.m. The next high tide is at 10:51 pm.
The Edisto Buoy is reading 3.9 ft. with an extra long-period east/south-east swell height of 2.3 ft. at 15 seconds and a short period north-east wind swell 3.3 ft at 6 seconds.
We should see continued Lorenzo swell filling in this afternoon in the waist to stomach high range with a bigger set, but the north-east winds are going go get on it today. Lorenzo swell should peak late today into Wednesday morning into the chest high range. The swell and the pesky north-east wind fades some Wednesday and through the remainder of the work week. This Lorenzo swell will be very long period which means you may need to look around to see where its working. Late week we see strong cold front approaches and strong north/north-east wind-swell build, but most of it looks to pass our shores and head to Florida. So, surf this week if you can.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our marine area calls for: “A weak cold front will cross the area from the north today. High pressure will then prevail through much of the week. Another cold front is expected to pass through the area late Friday, followed by cooler high pressure over the weekend.”
We have nice weather this morning. It’s 78* and sunny. Look for a hot day with a high of 84* and partly cloudy skies today.
Water temperature is 82*.
Sunrise is at 7:13 a.m. and sunset will be at 7:03 p.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
