Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Tuesday, October 20 at 8:30 a.m.
Keep in mind, there are no more parking restriction at Folly Beach. Parking is now available on Center Street and all side-streets.
The Folly Beach Pier is now closed as they prepare to tear it down and build a new structure.
Surf at Folly is showing knee-to-thigh. Maybe slightly bigger. Looking at semi-choppy, weak, side-shore conditions. The long-board is probably the best bet, today.
Winds are still moderate out of the north-east at around 10 to 12 knots, making for slightly drifty conditions.
Look for winds to come more onshore from the north-east this afternoon at 10 to 15 knots. Surf should stay slightly drifty and get semi-choppy this afternoon.
We have a high tide at 11:28 a.m. and a low tide at 5:41 pm.
Edisto Buoy is down. Virtual buoy data is showing 3.6 ft at 5 seconds in a short-period easterly swell.
We still have some high-angled easterly swell in the water as the tide come in this morning with slightly drifty conditions averaging knee-to-thigh high and semi-choppy. Look for surf to pick up mid-week as a possible hurricane begins to take shape south-east of Bermuda. It is already been named Tropical Storm Epsilon. This should pick surf up in Easterly ground-swell beginning Wednesday and will likely increase surf through the latter part of the work week into Saturday. Winds will trend moderate north-east for the period, so expect some drift in the swell. So, look for ground swell to pick up mid-week and carry for several days.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast calls for: “High pressure and a weak coastal trough will persist into late week. A cold front might approach this weekend.”
It’s 70* this morning with clouds at the beach. Look for a high today around 79* and cloudy skies most of the day.
Water temperature is 72*.
Sunrise is at 7:28 a.m. and sunset will be at 6:39 p.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
