Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Tuesday, September 17 at 8:30 a.m.

Surf at The Washout this morning is waist to stomach high with a rare chest high set in an easterly ground swell. It is super soft at the morning’s high tide at The Washout.

Winds are north at 10 knots with clean waves with a slight drift from north to south, down the beach. It’s smaller than yesterday, and a longboard would be a really fun choice, early.

Look for north-east winds to pick up this afternoon at 10 to 15 knots, adding some chop to a continued smaller ground swell.

We have a high tide at 10:21 a.m., and a low tide will be at 4:33 p.m. The next high tide is at 10:42 p.m.

The Edisto Buoy is reading 6.2 ft. at 9 seconds in an east south-east ground-swell and an easterly wind swell combination.

Surf at the Washout is running waist to stomach in an easterly ground swell courtesy of Hurricane Humberto. North-east winds this afternoon could add some chop to the surf, but likely not as much wind as we have seen. Look for the swell to continue to pulse as Humberto swings north-east of our coast, then out to sea. Surf fades a bit into Wednesday, but it’ll likely still ridable. Long range also has the eastern Atlantic firing up as well. Lots to watch over the course of the next 8 days.

Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our marine area calls for: “Hurricane
Humberto will continue to move away from the coast through mid week.
A cold front will advance through the area Wednesday,
followed by high pressure into early next week.”

It’s 73* at the beach this morning and sunny. Look for a hot day with a high of 89* and sun.

Water temperature is 83*.

Sunrise is at 7:03 a.m. and sunset will be at 7:24 p.m.

Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
