Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Tuesday, Sept. 22 at 8:30 a.m.
You can now park in right-of-way on the side streets at Folly Monday through Thursday. Keep in mind parking restrictions still apply Friday through Sunday. Check the City of Folly Beach’s Web site for more information.
We still have a mandatory mask ordinance in effect for Folly Beach.
Surf is waist-to-stomach high with a bigger set to chest in a mixed easterly ground swell. It has a high north angle on it with the winds. Its semi-clean and very drifty from north-to-south, down the beach. I’d imagine it will pick up some on the incoming tide this morning.
Winds are north at 15 to 20 knots. It is blowing hard side-shore, early.
Look for winds to clock more north-east and gust to 20 knots this morning. Wind could slack some (finally) this afternoon. We see a drifty surf-zone most of the day, with less wind late afternoon.
We are coming off a low tide early this morning, and high tide will be at 12:48 p.m. The next low tide is at 7 p.m.
The Edisto Buoy is down. Virtual buoy data showing 6.7 ft at 16 seconds in a long period east/south-east swell with a long-period east/north-east swell 6 ft at 12 seconds.
We have continued, mixed easterly ground swell at the beach today, and it should build some in size as the tide comes in this morning. We see strong north/side-shore winds are forecast this morning, slacking some this afternoon. Swell begins to fade some today, with a few leftovers on Wednesday with less wind. Look for surf falling off Thursday and into the weekend.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our marine area calls for: “High pressure will prevail through late week. A cold front could approach the region early next week.”
It’s nice and cool this morning. It’s 58* and sunny. Look for a high of 72* today and sun. It’s a perfect fall beach-day.
Water temperature has dropped with the cooler weather, is 75*. You’ll need a neoprene jacket this morning.
Sunrise is at 7:07 a.m. and sunset will be at 7:16 p.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
