Good morning this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Monday, Sep 6 at 8:30 a.m.

Waves at The Pier this morning at the lower tide are knee-to-thigh high. There is a waist high set.  It is inconsistent ground swell in the water this morning, but it looks fun.

Winds are west at 5 knots, and surf zone is clean. Surf is choppy, and it doesn’t have good form.

Winds stay south-westerly today and increase 10 to 15, and we’ll see a choppy surf-zone later today.

Low tide is 10:32 a.m., and high tide will be at 5:16 p.m. The next low tide will be at 10:30 p.m.

The Edisto Buoy is reading 3 feet at 11 seconds in an increasing, long-period east/south-east swell which is likely compliments of Tropical Storm Earl.

We should see increasing swell today, but the winds are predicted to be south-west ahead of an approaching cold front. This should chop up the surf this afternoon.  As of now, we have tropical storm Earl in the west-central Atlantic. This should become a hurricane toady. This should send some ground swell into our beaches through the end of the week. Just keep an eye on the winds. Thursday is looking like some slack winds and a decent ground swell. Might want to head to Florida or the Outer Banks for the weekend as the angle of the swell goes more north.

Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our area currently calls for: “Weak troughing will prevail today ahead of a cold front moving into the area on Wednesday. The front will likely stall to the south into the weekend while high pressure builds in from the north.”

Water Temperature is around 83*.

It’s 82* today with sun. We expect a mix of sun and clouds at the beach today. We could see a shower or thunderstorm later today. We will see a high of 86* at the beach with lots of humidity.

Sunrise is at 6:57 a.m., and sunset will be at 7:39 p.m.
