Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Wednesday, Sept. 27 at 8:15 a.m.
Waves at the washout are knee to thigh high at the morning’s lower tide. It looks like Maria’s swell has moved out of our swell window. We should see a clean waist high long-board wave as the tide comes in mid-morning.
It is draining out a bit at the morning’s low tide, but should get better form as the tide comes in mid-morning. Might want to bring a longboard or a fish for the late morning glide session.
Winds are north/north-west at 5 knots, and surf is nice and clean. Look for north-west winds at 10 knots this morning, going south-west mid-afternoon and bumping up the surf.
We are coming off a low tide. High tide is at 1:52 p.m., low tide will be at 8:06 p.m.
Edisto buoy is reading 3.3 ft. at 11 seconds in high-angled east/north-east ground swell. Most swell is heading south past our beaches.
Hurricane Maria has moved north of our swell window and we see small leftovers today average thigh high with perhaps a bigger set as the tide comes in this morning. Surf looks small to end the work week, then we should see a choppy, high angled north-east wind swell build Saturday increasing Sunday after a cold front passage on Friday night. This swell continues into your work week.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our marine area calls for: “Tropical Storm Maria will continue to track off the Mid Atlantic coast through late week. A cold front will move through the area by early this weekend, followed by high pressure into early next week. Refer to the latest advisories on Maria from the National Hurricane Center.”
It is 74* and sunny this morning. Expect a hot day with a high of 91* and sun today.
Water temperature is around 81*.
Sunset is at 7:09 p.m. and sunrise will be at 7:10 a.m.
