Good morning this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report for Wednesday, June 21 at 8:30 a.m.
Today is the first day of summer, and we have an early season tropical storm out there. Tropical Storm Bret. Just one ‘t”, so it’s hurricane season, and we’ll dot our :”I”s and cross one “t”.
Looks like Bret might ride a little south below the Caribbean Island chain, but don’t be surprised to see a little ground-swell headed our way sometime late weekend into early next work week.
Surf at Folly is looking really fun with a low pressure system just off-shore this morning. It’s thigh to waist high with stomach high sets, and occasionally a little bigger.
Winds are slack and surf is clean on the incoming tide.
Look for south winds this afternoon at 10 to 15, and we should see chop in the surf zone later today, but there is going to be something to ride all day.
We have a high tide at 10:50 a.m. . Low will drop out at 4:35 p.m. High tide will move back in at 11 p.m.
The Edisto Buoy is reading 2 feet at 8 seconds in a medium period east/south-east swell, with a building south/south-east wind swell running 4 feet at 6 seconds.
Fun surf alert for today. Get some if you can. It’s a nice day, and expect summer-style crowd factor. Mid-to late week, we see south/south-west wind swell pick up as a stationary front lingers over our area, then lifts north late week. This should bring increased southerly winds. As Tropical Storm Bret starts to move west/south-west, the northerly wind field of the storm should push a little ground swell our way late in the weekend into early next week. There is another low behind Brett that could keep the early summer swell train running, so lets keep our fingers crossed for that.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast calls for: “Low pressure will develop across the region and then prevail into late week.
Water temperature is around 80*
Its 78* with sun this morning. We should see scattered storms this afternoon with a high of 83* and high humidity.
It’s the longest day of the year. Sunrise is at 6:12 a.m., and sunset will be at 8:30 p.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
