Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Wednesday, April 14 at 8:30 a.m.
Surf at The Washout this morning is in ankle-to-knee high. There is a rare thigh set, and it’s perfectly glassy as the tide comes in. Only for longboards, but it’s a pretty morning.
Winds are slack this morning, and surf-zone is clean.
Look for winds to gradually pick up from the south late morning. Blowing south 15 to 20 with a higher gust as a cold front approaches this afternoon.
We have a high tide at 10:11 a.m., and a low tide at 4 p.m. The next high tide is at 10:18 p.m.
Virtual buoy readings are showing mixed easterly swell under 1.8 ft. at 8 seconds in an east/north-east medium period swell passing right by our beaches.
Surf looks small today, but will pick up some Thursday in a choppy, drifty south-west wind swell as a cold front approaches and then stalls off-shore for Thursday. Hopefully a more meaningful low will pop off of this stalled frontal boundary for Friday and into the weekend, but right now swell models are NOT calling for much for Friday and into the weekend.
Your National Weather Service Marine Weather forecast calls for: “Dry high pressure will prevail into tonight. A cold front will advance through the region Thursday then will stall off the Southeast coast Friday through early next week. A series of low pressures will track along this stationary front and will produce periods of inclement weather this weekend into early next week. Drier high pressure will build over the region during the middle of next week.”
It is nice out this morning. Lots of sunshine and 65*. Look for a high of 75* with perfect beach weather on tap for today, but it will get a little windy this afternoon.
Water temperature is around 67*. It should be going up over the next week.
Sunrise is at 6:50 a.m. and sunset will be at 7:48 p.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
