Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Wednesday, August 11 at 8:30 a.m.
The Governor’s Cup of Surfing takes place at The Washout this weekend. Sign up for the contest before Wednesday, and we’ll see you out there.
Surf at the Washout this morning is knee-high.
Winds are north-west at 5 knots, and surf-zone is clean. Just not much swell out here today.
Look for winds to switch south this afternoon at 10 to 15 knots, and surf gets choppier later today.
We have a high tide at 10:33 a.m., and a low tide at 4:35 p.m. The next high tide is at 10:45 p.m.
The Edisto buoy is reading a paltry 2 ft at 9 seconds in a small, medium period easterly swell.
With high pressure set up over our marine area, we really don’t expect much surf for most of the work week. It’s worth keeping an eye on the tropics as what is now Tropical Storm Fred traverses into the Caribbean this week on a track to the Eastern Gulf of Mexico. Hard to say what the intensity might be, but we could see some small, residual, long-period south-easterly ground swell starting Friday late day and into the weekend. Nothing too big, but it’ll likely be fairly clean with high pressure set up over our marine area. This trend continues into the work week with on-shore winds increasing Monday into Tuesday.
Your National Weather Service Marine Weather Forecast for our area calls for: “High pressure will prevail across the area into the upcoming weekend. A front should then approach the area early next week while Tropical Cyclone Fred is expected to move into the eastern Gulf of Mexico.
We have lots of sun this morning. It’s currently 82*. Look for a high of 87* with high humidity and typical monkey-butt, hot-August weather.
Water temperature is around 84*.
Sunrise is at 6:40 a.m. and sunset will be at 8:08 p.m.
