Time of Report: 8 a.m.
Wave Forecast: Knee-to-thigh.
Traffic: None
Parking: Plenty
Dangers: None.

Good morning, this is Chad with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Wednesday, August 16th at 8:00 a.m.

Surf at the Washout right now around knee-to-thigh high. It’s glassy, but weak on the high tide.

Winds are west around 5 knots, and the surf zone is clean.

Look for south-west winds to create choppy conditions this afternoon as it increases 15 to 20 knots later today out of the south.

The tide is high at time of report. We will see a low tide at 2:28 p.m. The next high tide will be at 8:52 p.m.

The Edisto Buoy is reading 3.0 ft at 5 seconds in short period south-west wind wave.

Knee/thigh high surf for today, getting choppier this afternoon.  Our next hope for small choppy swell comes later this afternoon into Thursday, as south-west wind swell kicks up as a fontal boundary lingers over our marine area Thursday. This trend continues into Friday, before high pressure sets up to our north-east and we should see a trade wind style swell combined with a tropical wave/swell to our south. This could push up some longer period ground swell Saturday afternoon into Sunday/Monday with more favorable wind conditions at of the south-east. Hopefully it might get fun later in the weekend. There are a few tropical spots to watch approaching the Central Atlantic later this week. We’ll keep you updated.

Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast calls for: “A cold front will linger across the area through Thursday, then move offshore as high pressure builds in from the west. A trough of low pressure could move in from the Atlantic Saturday night or Sunday.”

Water temperature is around 85*.

It’s already 78* this morning. Look for a high of 86* and partly cloudy. Looks like a chance of rain this evening.

Sunrise is at 6:44 a.m., and sunset will be at 8:02 p.m.
