Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Wednesday, August 18 at 8:30 a.m.
Surf at the Washout this morning is waist-to-chest high.
We have south-west winds at 5 knots, and surf is bumpy, but there are some rideable sections.
Look for winds to switch south at 10 knots this afternoon.
We have a low tide at 10:37 a.m., and a high tide at 5:22 p.m.
The Edisto buoy is reading 4 ft. at 7 seconds is a south-east wind swell.
It’s the first day back for school today, and we still have surf. Conditions have improved and cleaned up since yesterday, even though there are thunderstorms in the area. Look for continued waves today with swell dropping off some as tropical on-shore flow begins to ease some this afternoon. Tropical storm Henri is moving south-west of Bermuda over the next few days, and this should enhance our ground swell a bit on Thursday and Friday. The storm is out of our swell window for the most part, but there could be some swell sneaking through. We see local south-west wind swell for Saturday with choppier conditions and hot weather.
Your National Weather Service Marine Weather Forecast for our area calls for: “The Lowcountry and Coastal Empire will generally remain between an inland trough and offshore high pressure through early next week.”
It is dumping rain at the beach this morning. It is 78*. Look for rain on-and-off today, with a high of 86*.
Water temperature is around 85*.
Sunrise is at 6:45 a.m. and sunset will be at 8 p.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
