Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Wednesday, December 15 at 8:30 a.m.

We just received a new shipment of Carver surf-skate boards at the shop just in time for Christmas.

Surf at The Washout this morning is knee-high with a thigh set. It still has a lot of north wind in it and is closing out at the lower tide. Just too much north wind to make it at all appealing.

Winds are north at 10 to12 knots. Surf zone is side-shore but clean with a drift north-to-south.

Look for north-east winds picking up today at 10 to 15 knots making for choppy, drifty surf later on.

Tide will be low at 11:16 a.m., and high tide will be at 5:18 p.m.

The Edisto Buoy is reading 2.6 ft at 10 seconds in a long period east/south-east swell, with a short period east/north-east wind swell reading 3 ft. at 5 seconds.

There is potential for building surf as the tide rolls in late day, but there will be some north-east wind on it. This trend continues into the latter half of the work week. North-east winds continue today, but as high pressure sets up north-east of our marine area late week, look for flow to become more on-shore, possibly brining some small trade wind swell to Folly Thursday and into the weekend. North-east winds pick up to start the work week ahead of a low pressure forming along the south-east coast during the middle of next week. Should be some sort of waves for the next five days or so starting Thursday.

Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our area currently calls for: “High pressure will prevail through late week, before a cold front arrives over the weekend. High pressure will then build in early next week. Low pressure could pass off the Southeast coast towards the middle of next week.”

It’s 53* with sun this morning. Look for a nice beach day with a high of 65* and sun today. Not bad beach weather for December.

Water Temperature is hovering around 59*.

Sunrise is at 7:13 a.m., and sunset will be at 5:14 p.m.

Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
