Side-shore, semi-chop. Weak.

Time of Report: 8:30 a.m.
Wave Forecast: Flaaaaattttt.
Traffic: Not too bad.
Parking: Plenty.
Dangers: None.

Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Wednesday, December 23 at 8:30 a.m.

We will close at 2 p.m. tomorrow, Christmas Eve. We are wishing you all a happy holiday season.

Surf at Folly this morning is flat. Looking very weak overall.

Winds are north/north-east at 15 knots. Surf-zone is side-shore, and semi-choppy with slight drift down the beach north-to-south.

Look for winds to go east, then south-east later at 10 to 15 knots. Surf could build a bit in a short-period wind swell later today as a warm front begins to lift north. Probably not much size to the surf until tomorrow.

We have a low tide as of report time, and high tide will be at 2:50 p.m. The next low tide is at 8:55 p.m.

Virtual buoy data is reading showing small, east/north-east swell. Much of which is passing by our beaches.

Looking ahead, we see a warm-front lift north tonight, and major cold front approaching our marine area building south wind swell significantly tomorrow: Christmas Eve. This will likely fade out over-night Thursday into Christmas morning. Hopefully we can either get a cleanup session late Thursday, but it’s likely going to be pretty windy swell event, with surf dropping off and getting really cold for Christmas morning. We aren’t looking at too much surf for the weekend, as high pressure sets up, and temperatures remain chilly.

Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast calls for: “High pressure will prevail today, then give way to a warm front that lifts through tonight. A strong cold front will cross the area late Thursday, followed by cold high pressure through the weekend. Another cold front could move through the region early next week.”

It’s a beautiful 53* and sunny this morning. Look for a high of 62* and clouds moving in this afternoon.

Water temperature has dropped to 55*.

Sunrise is at 7:19 a.m. and sunset will be at 5:18 p.m.

Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
