Good morning this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Wednesday, December 28 at 8:30 a.m.
Hope everyone had a great holiday. The New Folly Pier is now open to the public for a few weeks. Come on out and check it out.
Waves at the Washout this morning are flat-to-knee high and it’s still cold. It’s supposed to warm up a bit this afternoon.
Winds are light and variable this morning and surf-zone is clean.
Look for winds to be north at 5 knots this morning. Going east at 5 to 10 knots this afternoon. There should be slight surface chop on the water this afternoon.
High tide will be at noon today, with a low tide following at 6:07 this evening.
The Edisto Buoy is reading 2 ft at 7 seconds in a very small medium-period east/south-east swell.
Our flat trend will continue through most of our work week. Thursday, we see a high pressure settle itself off the mid-Atlantic moving more offshore as a low-pressure system moves in for the weekend. This should begin some onshore flow generating some south-east swell. Look for a slow building trend beginning Friday morning peaking on Saturday. This swell will slowly fade out Sunday into the beginning of the New Year work week. Look for waist to shoulder high surf throughout that period with warmer temperatures arriving as well.
Our NOAA Marine Weather Forecast calls for: “High pressure will persist through the week with temperatures rising well above average. Unsettled weather is likely over the weekend as low pressure approaches from the west. High pressure will return early next week.”
It’s not so cold this morning. It’s 38* and sunny. Look for a nice winter beach day with a high of 55* and sun.
Water temperature went way down over the past few days. It’s 49*, and you’ll need a 4/3 booties, gloves and a hood for this weekend’s swell.
Sunrise is at 7:20 a.m., and sunset will be at 5:21 p.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
