Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Wednesday, December 29 at 8:30 a.m.

We’re open for regular business hours this week. 10 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. We will close at 1 p.m. on New Year’s Eve and be closed New Year’s Day.

Surf at The Washout this morning is knee-high at the lower tide, but it looks like it could increase some on the incoming tide late morning.

Winds are west/south-west at 5 to 10 knots, and surf zone is semi-choppy.

Look for winds to increase south-westerly all day averaging 10 to 15 with a gust to 20 knots. Surf will be side-shore and choppy today and into Thursday.

We have a low tide at 9:35 a.m., and a high tide at 3:25 pm. The next low tide is at 9:43 p.m.

The Edisto Buoy is reading 1.3 feet at 10 seconds in a long period south-east ground swell with a short-period south-west wind wave 3.6 ft. at 5 seconds.

Surf should begin to pick up again starting today in a short-period south-west wind swell. This continues into Thursday. Look for south-west winds to average 10 to 15 knots, and surf will likely have poor form. We see a bigger south-west wind swell build Saturday into Sunday ahead of a strong cold front as winds pick up strong from the south/south-west and push in some chest to head high south wind chop Saturday afternoon into Sunday. Winds come north-west after the cold front passage. Will that take place on Sunday afternoon before it gets dark? Maybe. Fingers crossed.

Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our area currently calls for: “High pressure will generally prevail until a strong cold front moves through Sunday. Much colder high pressure will then return into the middle of next week.”

It’s warm sunny this morning. It’s 643*. Look for a nice winter beach day with a high of 69* and mostly sunny skies this afternoon.

Water Temperature is hovering around 59*.

Sunrise is at 7:21 a.m., and sunset will be at 5:22 p.m.

Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
