Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Wednesday, December 30 at 8:30 a.m.
We will close at 2 p.m. on New Year’s Eve. We will be closed New Year’s Day. We hope everyone has a safe and happy New Year.
Surf at Folly this morning is thigh-to-waist high in a building, high angled east wind swell.
Winds are north/north-east at 15 to 18 knots. Surf is side-shore, drifty and semi-choppy.
Look for winds to go north-east at 10 to 15 knots later this morning, then go east late day at 15 to 20 knots. We see choppy, drifty, side-shore surf today.
We are just coming off a high-tide this morning, and low tide will be at 2:03 p.m. High tide will be at 8:05 p.m.
Virtual buoy data is reading 4.8 at 5 seconds in a building, short-period easterly wind swell.
Surf looks to come back to life again mid-week as high pressure shifts well offshore and begins to produce building, high-angled east wind swell today. This trade-swell will then be enhanced as a cold front approaches our marine area Thursday and builds south swell into the head high range. Another low moves in and continues to bring big choppy surf for Saturday into Sunday, when surf should clean up and begin to fall off. Winds will be a factor during these upcoming swell events. Either way we can plan on surfing a lot in this coming week.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast calls for: “High pressure will prevail through mid week, while a coastal trough lingers in the vicinity. A cold front will then impact the area late week through the weekend. High pressure will return late Sunday and prevail through early next week.”
It is 55* at the beach this morning with cloudy skies. We expect a high of 64* with clouds and some rain showers this afternoon.
Water temperature has dropped to 53*.
Sunrise is at 7:21 a.m. and sunset will be at 5:23 p.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
