Good morning this is Bates with you Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Wednesday, February 15, at 8:30 a.m.
Surf at Folly is knee-to-thigh high in a short-period south wind swell. It could get a slight push with the tide late morning.
Winds are west/south-west around 5 knots, and surf-zone is overall clean. Best for the longboard, but it’s rideable.
Look for south-west winds to pick up at 10 to 15 knots, and the surf will get choppier this afternoon.
Low tide is at 9:15 a.m., and high tide will be at 3 p.m. The next low tide will be at 9:12 p.m.
The Edisto Buoy is reading 3 feet at 4 seconds in a short-period south-west wind swell.
We are looking at small surf today, maybe enough for the longboard with south-west winds picking up later today. Next swell shows Thursday and Friday as a cold front approaches our marine area late week, and south-west winds pick up late-day Thursday, and go strong south-west on Friday. Thursday could be fun late morning as the tide starts to fill in with less wind predicted, for now. Kind of the typical, pre-frontal wind swell, with less wind for Thursday, and lots of drifty south-west wind swell on Friday. Winds pick up strong from the north-east on Saturday, and north-east wind-swell should build in drifty, high angled wave by late day. These wind abate some for Sunday, when waves will drop in size, but have better form.
The NOAA Marine Weather forecast for our area calls for: “High pressure will prevail through Wednesday. A cold front will sweep across the area Thursday night into Friday. High pressure will then return this weekend and persist into early next week.”
It’s 58* and sunny this morning. Expect a high of around 67* later today with sunshine and clouds mixed. Should be a nice beach day.
Water temperature is 57*.
Sunrise is at 7:02 a.m., and sunset will be at 6:05 p.m.
