Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for your Wednesday, February 16 at 8:30 a.m.

Surf picked up some overnight. It’s running knee-to-thigh high with a waist set in an easterly wind swell.

Winds are north-east at 5 to 10 knots, and surf zone is semi-choppy and kind of weak at the higher tide.

Look for winds to increase from the east later this morning, then go south-east at 10 to 15 knots with a gust to 20 knots early afternoon. Surf will be side-shore and choppy this afternoon. Surf should build on the incoming tide later today.

Tide is now going out. Low tide will be at 1:43 p.m., and high tide will be at 7:52 p.m.

The Edisto Buoy is reading 5 ft. at 5 seconds in a short-period easterly wind swell. This wind-swell will begin to rotate south-easterly this afternoon. This should increase the size of the surf.

Today, there should be some choppy, building south-easterly wind swell as surf starts to increase ahead of a late week cold front. This will create on-shore flow and send in a typical, pre-frontal winter-time south swell with bigger conditions and southerly winds keeping things fairly choppy. This trend continues Thursday and Friday. On Saturday, winds come more north and we could see a possible clean-up early on Friday with colder temperatures. Winds go strong north/north-east Saturday afternoon, and we see high-angled north-east wind swell fill in late weekend. High pressure sets up to our north-east early next week, and we could see some small, lazy trade wind swell with slightly cleaner conditions.

Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our area currently calls for: “High pressure will prevail through Thursday. A cold front will advance through the area Friday, followed by high pressure for the weekend and early next week.”

It’s 54* with clouds this morning and some showers in the area. Look for a high of 62* and clouds with a chance of showers today.

Water Temperature is around 51*.

Sunrise is at 7:01 a.m., and sunset will be at 6:06 p.m.
