Dangers: The waning days of "not-tourist season."

Good morning this is Bates with you Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Wednesday, February 8 at 8:30 a.m.

Surf at Folly is running about knee high and it’s nice and glassy.  There is an occasional thigh set, but it’s pretty weak, so bring the log if you want to get wet.

Winds are slack this morning. We really don’t expect too much wind today, and temperatures are spring like, so a good day for the boat or a walk on the beach. For surfing, not much swell.

Winds should come from the south-east this afternoon at 5 to 8 knots, but surf zone should be overall clean today.

High tide is at 9:13 a.m., and low tide will be at 3:23 p.m. The next high tide is at 9:35 p.m.

The Edisto Buoy is reading 2.6 feet at 9 seconds in a medium period east swell. There is a short-period south-east wind swell running 1 ft. at 4 seconds.

We expect lazy, small swell to continue for your Wednesday averaging knee high with perhaps a thigh set. Bring the log if you want to get wet. A series of cold fronts will cross the area Thursday and Friday followed by low pressure over the weekend, and this will kick up a bigger wind swell from the south, but winds will be heavy on it Starting Thursday night and through Friday evening, when winds are predicted to come west. Strong north-west winds will show on Saturday, and hopefully there will be a clean-up session Saturday into Sunday.

The NOAA Marine Weather forecast for our area calls for: “High pressure will prevail through Wednesday night. A frontal system will stall over the area Thursday night through Saturday, then low pressure will move through Saturday night and Sunday. High pressure will briefly build in early next week, then a cold front could move through next Wednesday.”

It’s 52* and sunny this morning. Look for a high of 66* with sun this afternoon. It’s really nice beach weather.

Water temperature is 57*.

Sunrise is at 7:08 a.m., and sunset will be at 5:58 p.m.
