Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Wednesday, January 27 at 8:30 a.m.
Surf at Folly is knee-to-thigh high range. It is kind of weak. Bring the log if you want to glide a few.
Winds are west/north-west at 10 knots, and surf zone is clean, with some rain showers in the area
Look for westerly winds to continue today at 10 to 15 knots, falling off some later afternoon.
We are coming off a high tide. Low tide at 12:56 p.m., and a high tide will be at 7 p.m.
The virtual buoy is reading 2.3 ft. at 6 seconds in a fading, short-period south wind swell.
We have fading surf with clean conditions this morning. Might be best for the long-board if you want to get wet. Surf should fall off some this afternoon with off-shore flow blowing down the remaining swell. Strong north winds overnight will blow down the surf as a low-pressure system is forecast to form east of the mid-Atlantic states late in the work week. This should push up a significant north-easterly ground swell, but most of the swell will pass by Folly for late week. Points south in Florida that like north-east swell should pick up significantly late week and into the weekend. We see another choppy south wind-swell on Sunday afternoon into Monday morning as a cold front approaches to start the work week.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast calls for: “A storm system will move through the area Wednesday night. High pressure will return late week, followed by another cold front early next week.
It is 57* with clouds and rain showers at the beach. Look for a high of 57* and showers all day. There is a gale warning in effect tonight with strong north winds in the forecast.
Water temperature is 53*.
Sunrise is at 7:16 a.m. and sunset will be at 5:47 p.m.
