Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Wednesday, July 8 at 8:30 a.m.
Mandatory Mask Ordinance enacted by Folly Beach City Council in late June. You must wear a mask in Ocean Surf Shop. Thank you for your cooperation, and for supporting our small, local business.
We have a new shipment of Odysea and Catch Surf soft-boards that arrived and they are going fast. Come check them out.
Surf at The Washout is knee-high. There is an occasionally thigh set. It’s best for the long-board this morning.
Winds are light from the west/south-west, and conditions are clean.
Winds should increase later today, eventually going south-west at 10 to 15 knots this afternoon. Look for choppier conditions for afternoon, with cleaner conditions for high-tide this morning.
We have a high tide at 11:27 a.m. Low tide follows at 4:55 p.m.
The Edisto Buoy is reading 2.5 feet at 8 seconds in an east/south-east swell.
Mid-week we should begin to see small signs of life in the surf zone. Look for an increase in a fresh, small, localized south wind-swell compliments of a low pressure system slowly moving across and north-east of our beaches. This should build surf into the thigh-to-waist high range Thursday and into the end of the work week as a low pressure pulls past our marine area late week. We then see increasing, choppy south-west wind swell for the weekend as a trough of low pressure ligers in our marine area.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our marine area calls for: “An area of low pressure will slowly drift toward the Carolina coast today, before lifting northeast tonight and Thursday. A trough of low pressure will then linger over the area through early next week.”
It’s 78* and partly-to-mostly cloudy at the beach this morning. Look for rain on-and-off this afternoon with a high of 83*.
Water temperature is way up to 84*.
Sunrise is at 6:18 a.m. and sunset will be at 8:30 p.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
