Wednesday, June 17

Clean early. South-west wind bump later today.

Time of Report: 8:30 a.m.
Wave Forecast: Ankle-to-knee.
Traffic: Not much.
Parking: Some to be found.
Dangers: Kinda' cold for June.

Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Wednesday, June 17 at 8:30 a.m.

Surf at Folly is flat-to-ankle high with a knee set and looking weak.

Winds are north-west at 5 mph and the surf-zone is clean.

Winds should continue west this morning, then go south-west at 10 to 15 knots this afternoon, creating weak, bumpy wind waves.

We are coming to a low tide at 11:36 a.m. We see a high tide at 6:07 p.m.

The Edisto Buoy is reading 3 ft. at 6 seconds in a short-period NE wind-swell passing our shores. North-west wind is beating it down, off-shore.

Surf is small and clean today only showing ankle-to-knee high and looking weak. Some strange June weather we have seen lately in the Charleston area. Unfortunately both our short and long range forecast show dismal signs of life for surf. High pressure looks to take control over the Atlantic late-week increasing south-west wind swell. But it’ll still be in the knee-to-thigh range. Not much. Good news is the sun is back in the forecast the next few days, and it should start warming up some.

Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our marine area calls for: “An upper level low will gradually weaken and move away from the Southeast through Friday. Meanwhile, surface troughing is forecasted to develop and persist along the coast. Weak high pressure will try to move into the region late this week into early next week.”

It’s 65* and chilly currently with cloudy skies. Look for a high of only 75 with the sun coming out this afternoon.

Water temperature dropped during the cold snap, it’s 72*. Craaazzzyyy for June!

Sunrise is at 6:10 a.m. and sunset will be at 8:30 p.m.

Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
