Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Wednesday, June 3 at 8:30 a.m.
Welcome to the third day of the official 2020 hurricane season. We already have two tropical storms under our belt, and now we have Tropical Storm Cristobal in the Gulf of Mexico, heading north into – perhaps – Louisiana late in the weekend.
We will be open from 9:15 a.m. until 6 p.m. Please follow social distancing protocols when shopping.
Waves at Folly this morning are knee-to-thigh high. Maybe a little bigger at the higher tide this morning. Overall, it’s pretty small and weak out here this morning.
Winds are south-west at 10 to 15 knots, and surf zone is choppy.
Winds are forecasted south-westerly at 15 to 20 knots today, kicking up small, weak south-west wind waves.
Tide is going out, and low tide is at 12:20 p.m. and high follows at 6:24 p.m.
The Edisto Buoy is reading 1.6 ft at 9 seconds in an easterly swell, with a short period south-west wind swell 2.6 ft at 4 seconds.
We see typical summer south/south-west wind swell fill in for the latter part of the work week averaging knee-to-thigh high under mostly choppy conditions. Tropical Storm Cristobal has formed in the southern Gulf of Mexico yesterday. It is predicted to move north towards the Louisiana coast perhaps by late in the weekend. It could become a hurricane late week. This could bring some choppy on-shore flow for late in the weekend depending on the storm’s track, but we’ll have to keep an eye on the progressive development of the low, and it’s forecast track.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our marine area calls for: “High pressure will remain offshore through late week, while a trough of low pressure settles inland. A cold front will approach the region over the weekend and could linger in the vicinity into early next week.
It’s 76*, cool and sunny. It’s a beautiful morning. Look for a high of 80* today and very nice beach weather.
Water temperature is around 79*. Back to boardies and bikinis.
Sunrise is at 6:11 a.m. and sunset will be at 8:24 p.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
