Side-shore drift. Blown out.

Time of Report: 8:30 a.m.
Wave Forecast: Flat.
Traffic: Not much.
Parking: Yes.
Dangers: None.

Good morning this is Bates your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Wednesday, March 15 at 8:30 a.m.

Surf at Folly is blown out this morning. It’s flat and windy. And cold, too.

Winds are northerly, side-shore, at 15 to 20. There is a drift down the beach from north-to-south.

Winds are predicted to slack some this afternoon at 10 to 12 knots from the north.

We just came off a low at 8:35 a.m., and a high tide at 2:30 p.m. a.m. p.m. Tide will be low at 8:43 tonight.

The Edisto Buoy is reading 5 feet at 7 seconds in a north/north-east wind swell, with a long period easterly swell, 2 feet at 13 seconds.

With a north-easter predicted for New England, might be a good time to head south to Florida for mid/late-week. High pressure will build in to our area through mid-week, and our next chance for more significant swell will be Friday into Saturday when another cold front moves through and builds a bigger south-west wind swell Friday, eventually cleaning up at some point on Saturday. We’ll keep you updated.

The NOAA Marine Weather forecast for our area calls for: “High pressure will prevail through Thursday, then move offshore. A cold front will cross through Friday night into Saturday morning, followed by cool High pressure into early next week.”

Well, it feels like winter finally decided to show up. At least a Lowcountry style winter. It’s 39* and sunny with a small craft advisory in effect for our marine area until around noon. Look for sun today with a high of 56*.

Water temperature fell back to 61*. Brrrrr.

Sunrise is at 7:31 a.m., and sunset will be at 7:26 p.m.
