Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Wednesday, March 31 at 8:30 a.m.
“I was smoking my Swisher Sweets and enjoying my fruit bowl, when I realized the waves were so good, I had to just throw it all on the ground and GET SOME! Don’t worry, some kook doing the surf report put it all in the trashcan that was about 5 yards away.”
Don’t litter on Folly Beach. Full stop.
Surf at The Washout this morning is waist-to-stomach high. Maybe slightly bigger. It is soft, so the high volume board might be best. It is VERY foggy, and it is kind of hard to even see out here.
Winds are light and variable. Surf zone is clean, but expected to get choppy later today.
Look for south winds this afternoon at 10 to 15 knots with gusts to 20 knots in a building south wind swell.
We have a high tide at 10:36 a.m., and a low tide at 4:41 p.m.
Virtual buoy readings are showing 3.6 ft. at 6 seconds in a mixed direction east/south-east wind swell.
A cold front will approach tonight brining onshore flow to our marine area. Today and early tomorrow morning will likely be our best chance for meaningful surf. The strong cold front passes off-shore on Thursday morning, when wind go strong north-west and surf will clean up some and drop rapidly. Winds/swell pushes off-shore Friday and into the weekend, when surf goes small and we see unseasonable cool temperatures.
Your National Weather Service Marine Weather forecast calls for: “A strong cold front will sweep through the area tonight, followed by dry and cool high pressure through the weekend. Warmer conditions will then return early next week.”
