Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop report and forecast for Tuesday, March 6 at 8:30 a.m.
It’s raining cats and dogs out here at the beach this morning. We’re building an ark, and we already have our two surfers: Kelly Slater and Stephanie Gilmore, so stay home and drown, ‘ya pelicans. Hahahah.
Surf at Folly this morning is thigh-to-waist high with RARE chest high sets and looks to be building since the tide is so low. It’s choppy.
Winds are south/south-east at 15 to 20, and expected to stay that way until overnight when winds come north at 5 to 10. Do we smell a south-swell clean up in the air? Could be. Maybe the late morning incoming tomorrow, so all you college spring-breakers lay off the Upper King Street and go to bed at a decent hour. Say, at least 3 a.m. for good measure.
Low tide is at 10:18 a.m. High tide is at 4:08 p.m.
Edisto Buoy is reading 5 feet at 8 seconds in a medium period east/south-east swell.
We still have some surf in the water, though conditions aren’t ideal. It is uncrowded though. And if you like communing with nature, this is your day. There should be some wind on it today with rain slacking off later today. The sun might even try to peak out. We do expect winds to shift north overnight, and we have our fingers crossed for a cleanup tomorrow morning. High pressure sets up again through Friday, and we see north-east flow and smaller surf with a higher easterly angle on it. By the weekend, a storm system moves back in and surf picks up again with on-shore flow and some spring storms. Should likely be some size in the surf for the weekend warriors, but wind could be a factor. Early next week, surf goes small. Enjoy this week and into the weekend.
The water temp is around 60*.
The NOAA Marine Forecast for our marine area calls for: “Low pressure will impact the region today with a weak cold front pushing offshore late tonight. High pressure will then prevail into Friday. A storm system is expected to impact the region Friday night into early Sunday, with high pressure to return early next week.”
It’s 65* and raining this morning. Look for clouds this afternoon with the sun trying to make an appearance at some point. We see a high of 67*.
Sunrise is 6:41 a.m., Sunset 6:20 p.m.
That’s all from us at Ocean Surf Shop. We’ll check back tomorrow.
