Good morning this is Bates you Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Weddnesday, March 8 at 8:30 a.m.

Surf at Folly this morning is knee-to-thigh high in a fresh, high angled north-east wind swell.

Winds are north/north-east at 15 to 20, and surf is drifty, weak and choppy.

We expect north-easterly winds at 15 to 20 all day today, with cooler temperatures at the beach. We see a choppy, drifty surf zone as swell passes our beaches and heads south.

We just had a high tide, and low tide drops out at 2:18 p.m. with another high filling in at 8:37 p.m.

The Edisto Buoy is reading 8 feet at 7 seconds in a short-period, high angled north-east wind swell, so head to Florida if you want some surf.

After a cold front passage yesterday we expect stronger winds from the north mid-week, pushing swell past our beaches. This trend will continue for the next week to 10 days, with the exception of a quick shot of choppy south wind swell for Friday ahead of another cold front. If you want some surf, Florida might be the best call as the forecast calls for a north-east swell this weekend into early next week. Unfortunately, surf won’t be great at Folly.

The NOAA Marine Weather forecast for our area calls for: “High pressure will build into the region today and prevail through Thursday. A cold front will cross the area late week, followed by the return of high pressure over the weekend. A low-pressure system will impact the region early next week.”

It’s cool for the first time in a month. It’s 53* and sunny. Look for a high of 65* and sun today.

Water temperature is up to 65*, but it’s likely to drop a few degrees in the coming days.

The days are getting longer. Sunrise is at 6:47 a.m., and sunset will be at 6:16 p.m.
