Good morning this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Wednesday, May 10 at 8:30 a.m.

The SSC-ESA Ocean Surf Shop contest will take place at The Washout on Saturday morning just after sunrise, so wax your sticks and get ready to be a winner.

There will also be a paddle-out to honor Samantha Miller on Saturday from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. at 2nd Block on the East end of Folly. Show some community pride, and let this family know that we all mourn with them.

This morning at the Washout on an incoming tide the surf is showing knee high in a fresh north/north-east wind swell. Unfortunately, the wind switched overnight after a cold front passage that is forecast to linger in our marine area, and the little south swell we’ve been enjoying over the past few days is blown down. Florida might be your best bet for surfing through Friday.

Winds are east/north-east at 20 knots, and surf is choppy and current is flowing down the beach. The current is just starting to pick up overnight.

We see north-east winds at 20 knots today, and drifty high-angled north-east wind swell should build some through late week.

We have a high tide today at 12:10 p.m.  Low tide will drain out at 6:13 p.m.

The Edisto Buoy is reading 4.6 3ft at 5 seconds in short period wind swell from the north-east, so most if this swell is passing by Folly Beach.

A stalled frontal boundary is forecast to keep surf small through late week, but don’t be surprised to see some longboard waves late Friday and into the weekend as weak high pressure sets up off the Mid-Atlantic states, and hopefully pushes a few small wave into our beaches Saturday and Sunday. Nothing too big, but pull out the longboard and maybe catch a glide. This small swell should pick up Sunday and carry us into the next work week.

Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast calls for: “A cold front will become stationary across the Deep South today, allowing high pressure to prevail through early next week. Another cold front should then arrive by the middle of next week.

Its 70* this morning and cloudy. Look for the clouds to clear off some this afternoon and we see temps rise to about 75*.

Water temperature is 72*.

Sunrise is at 6:24 a.m., and sunset will be at 8:08 p.m.

Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
