Good morning this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Wednesday, November 23 at 8:30 a.m.
Hoping everyone gets a little break for the holiday work week. We will close at 2 p.m. today – Thanksgiving Eve – and be closed Thanksgiving Day. We will resume normal winter hours on Friday, November 25.
It’s unlikely that we’ll do a surf report on Thanksgiving Day, so we can eat turkey for breakfast.
Waves at Folly today are averaging thigh to waist high with a stomach high set. There is a rare bigger set. It looks pretty fun as the tide starts to roll out this morning.
Winds are north at 10 to 12 knots, and surf zone is pretty clean. There is some drift, but looks like a few fun ones to be had.
We see winds switch more north-east today at 15 knots, and surf should be semi-choppy this afternoon.
We had a high tide around daybreak, and low tide will be at 1:09 p.m. The next high tide is at 7 p.m.
The Edisto Buoy is reading 5.9 feet at 5 seconds in a short period north-east winds swell, with a south/south-east swell 2 feet at 9 seconds.
We have a costal trough offshore through Thanksgiving. This will push up some rideable swell into the middle and latter part of your Thanksgiving holiday week. A warm front lifts north on Friday, and rideable waves should continue. Probably not super clean, but there is a little swell out there this week if you want to get wet. Winds will eventually flip south-west on Saturday ahead of a cold front. Look for a quick clean up on Sunday before surf gets small and cold to start the next work week.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our area currently calls for: “High pressure will persist to the north through Thursday while a coastal trough remains offshore. A slow moving warm front will be over or near our area on Friday, followed by a cold front Saturday night. High pressure returns next week.”
It’s a 58* with clouds this morning. Look for clouds today with some sun trying to come out and a high of 64*.
Water temperature is dropping off. It’s running around 60*
Sunrise is at 6:53 a.m., and sunset will be at 5:16 p.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
