Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Wednesday, October 21 at 8:30 a.m.
Keep in mind, there are no more parking restriction at Folly Beach. Parking is now available on Center Street and all side-streets.
The Folly Beach Pier is now closed as they prepare to tear it down and build a new structure.
Surf at Folly is showing waist-to-stomach high with chest-high sets. Maybe slightly bigger on a set. Looks kind of fun in an easterly ground swell.
Winds are moderate from the north at around 10 knots, and surf is side-shore, bumpy but fairly clean, early.
Look for winds to come more onshore from the east and increase around 15 to 20 this afternoon. Might want to get on it this morning before surf gets choppy later today.
We have a high tide at 12:27 a.m. and a low tide at 6:38 p.m.
Edisto Buoy is down. Virtual buoy data is showing 3.9 ft at 10 seconds in a long-period east/north-east ground swell.
Surf look fun through the high tide early afternoon. It’s averaging waist-to-chest high with a plus set. Easterly winds will get into it this afternoon, chopping things up. Look for surf to pick up mid-week as a possible Hurricane Epsilon gains strength south-east of Bermuda. This should pick surf up easterly ground-swell beginning Wednesday and will likely increase surf through the latter part of the work week into Saturday. Winds will trend moderate north-east for the period, so expect some drift in the swell. So, look for ground swell to pick up mid-week and carry for several days.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast calls for: “Weak high pressure and a coastal trough will persist into this weekend.”
It’s 70* this morning with clouds at the beach. Look for a high today around 79* and cloudy skies most of the day.
Water temperature is 72*.
Sunrise is at 7:28 a.m. and sunset will be at 6:39 p.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
