Good morning y’all. This is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Wednesday, September 24 at 8:45 a.m.
I forgot the good camera today, so all I have are these iPhone photos. Like my dad said, “Getting old ain’t for sissies.”
Surf looks really fun for the high volume sticks today. Longboarders on the pier are getting it, and with the higher tide, looks like the west side of the pier wins this morning. It’s kind of soft but there are stomach high and slightly bigger sets with long rides to be had. LOTS of your best friends are already out here.
Winds are light and variable, and come south this afternoon at 5 to 10, so not much wind today.
We are approaching a high tide at 10:08 a.m. , low tide will be at 4:16 p.m.
The Edisto Buoy is showing 3.3 feet at 10 seconds in a long period easterly swell, which should fade some as the day wears on, but probably an evening session to be had before sunset.
Gabrielle has turned to the north and our swell window. We see a general fading of long-period groundswell as the storm moves north and east. There should be some lazy small swell tomorrow for the longboard, but then waves look to fade out Friday. The weekend is looking kind of “meh.” Two areas of development – AL 94 and AL 93 are approaching in the Western Atlantic. Current models suggest a tropical low brewing well north of the Caribbean islands (AL93) could merge with a more modest low shaping up around the Bahamas (AL94) late work week. Its early and these storms have a long way to go before we make official calls but something to watch late week.
Water temperature is around 76*.
It is 75* and foggy this morning. Look for a humid day with sun and a high of 85*.
Sunrise was 7:06 a.m., Sunset 7:20 p.m.
