Good morning this is Brad with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Wednesday, November 9 at 8:30 a.m.
Waves at The Washout this morning are waist to stomach high with chest high sets.
Winds are north at 18 to 25 knots, and surf is side-shore with some clean faces, but there is definitely drift down the beach today, and it looks like it’s hard to catch. Tide is super high into the rocks.
Look for north/north-east winds at 25 to 30 knots with tropical storm winds possible later today. Look for drifty, semi-choppy surf later today as winds pick up and surf zone starts to get blown out. This trend should continue throughout the remainder of the work week.
We had a high tide at 8 a.m.., and low tide will be at 2:22 pm. The next high tide will be at 8:22 p.m. We’ll see flooding tides for the next several days.
The Edisto Buoy is reading 5.6 feet at 11 seconds in a long period east/south-east swell from Tropical Storm Nicole to our south. Wind swell is from the east north-east at a medium period 11.5 feet at 8 seconds. There is a lot of swell at the buoy, and lots of wind at the beach. It is not the day for beginners or surf lessons.
Tropical Storm Nicole looks to move on-shore in Florida before recurving into our vicinity late week. Tropical storm warnings are in effect for our marine area Thursday and Friday. With high pressure situated to our north and Nicole developing to our south, we should see winds continue to significantly increase from the north/north-east. This flow will increase our wave size late, with windy conditions. Look for semi-choppy, very drifty surf on this upcoming swell as winds will trend north-east at around 25 to 35 knots for late week. Should be plenty of size on the swell through Friday. If the winds trend more north, perhaps the swell will be side-shore and cleaner.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our area currently calls for: “Strong high pressure will prevail today. Tropical Cyclone Nicole is expected to impact the area Thursday into Friday. A cold front is then expected to sweep across the region this weekend, with high pressure building in its wake. Refer to the latest advisory on Nicole issued by the National Hurricane Center.”
Water temperature is running around 70*
It’s a cool 58* this morning. Look for increasing winds and a high of 65. It’ll be cloudy and overcast today.
Sunrise is at 6:44 a.m., and sunset will be at p.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
